Pre-World in Dominican Republic

Pre-World Comp logo On January 19th 2004, competition pilots will fly the Dominican Republic skies with the goal of winning. The record I hold there since 2002 is in peril :(

The Pre-World Cup Dominican Republic 2004 promises to be a top-level meet, considering the credentials of the pilots registered so far...

There are 15 World Cup pilots confirmed and many more positioned in the top 30 of very demanding circuits like the German, Swiss, Italian, French, Austrian and Swedish.

We will also have both female World Cup 1st and 2nd, Petra Krausova and Elisabeth Rauchenberger, rising the meet to an interesting challenge with women well positioned to fight for the first places overall.

I had originally intended to attend. Various circumstances prevented me to be there, the last reason being a nasty one that I cannot wait to talk about publicly. I would have loved to fly with pilots of this calibre for a full week. It will be for another time. Good luck to Bruno Berti who will be part of a competition for the first time. Bruno is a pilot with whom I flew a couple of times here at Yamaska.

Normalement,... more

Atom feed

Thanks to Mark Pilgrim's post about the latest Atom spec, I easily added an MT template that outputs an Atom feed.

Blogger memories

Cloning toy Almost a year ago, Raëlians took over the news space with their cloning lies. Here is what what i was thinking about this on January 5th 2003 (in French).

Also, when I switched from Blogger to MovableType this summer, I did not import all my posts from blogger. So here are a few posts I just imported manually.

Yet another SWT vs Swing opinion

The debate about what is best between Swing and SWT is endless. I read many weblog posts, online magazine articles, forum posts. The debate is generally focusing on engineering issues: Extensibility, scalability, performance, architecture, developer resources, Java-purity.

I did not see much comparisons from a user perspective. So here is one opinion from a user of Eclipse, the IDE built with SWT.

Jimmy likes developing with Eclipse. Eclipse helps Jimmy doing his job the way an IDE is expected to help him do it. But Jimmy likes Eclipse better than other Java IDEs that do the job as well. Jimmy feels Eclipse is an application that looks and feels as good as all his other Windows XP applications.

In short, Jimmy thinks that Eclipse is the best desktop Java application he has ever worked with. And Jimmy has used many many Java apps.

Switching to developer mode, I must now weight Jimmy's opinion compared to the engineering perspective. Is Jimmy's opinion heavy? I so much think so.

Atom slipping off the bleeding edge

Atom is not in a good mood these days.

I am just taking a guess here: Too much time, no deadline, too many people involved, no leadership, no sense of ownership, no client. And redoing something better. I have many feelings of "deja-vu" here.

From all the posts around on the subject, I quote an excerpt from a comment:

... But I am so surprised that people have forgotten the first days of this effort and the purpose so quickly [...]
